Following the Simplex I also intend to complete the R&R 20HP as a kit.  An O&K 20HP 0-4-0 (yes a steam loco) is also on my list, and in fact I suspect I can easily come up with enough loco projects to keep my going for a good few years...  I am also experimenting with even smaller mechanisms with a view to modelling the Lister and other very small industrial narrow gauge locos.

If you are interested in any of these loco kits or have any questions please email me.

The left hand version of the above photo downloads a movie showing the prototype 4mm scale 20HP Simplex pulling a train of 25 skips, a mixture of my own whitemetal and resin, Egger and Minitrains/Roco vee tippers, over an Egger track oval including two plastic frogged Egger points.  The controller used was a KPC switched feedback hand held unit also a KPC transformer.  Hopefully this video will be an encouragement to those who doubt the pulling capacity or running characteristics of  these small locos.  I have a video of the O&K doing the same thing.

The right hand version of the photo brings up a larger view of the pic.

I am currently developing a 7mm scale 14mm/16.5mm gauge version of the 20HP WD Simplex.  This is basically a scaled up version of the etch with a different mechanism, but still using belt drive to the wheels.  The radiator fan will be motorised seperately using a micro motor.  The only significant difference from the 4mm scale model will be that a driver will not be included, and radiator and exhaust castings may be resin rather than whitemetal.  Here are some photos of the prototype (all brass construction).

Loco Kits -  Ransomes & Rapier, O&K 20HP 0-4-0, Lister etc
After problems with obtaining suitable wheels and further time spent developing the reduction drive I am now satisfied with the running of the loco.  The next job is to fit in a second motor so that the fan can be motorised seperately.  Progress.... but not quite finished!
