| The design for this kit was, in the first instance, for my own purposes due to the absence of such a piece of rolling stock in the otherwise excellent range of commercially available 009 products. However the comments of fellow modellers, one in particular in the USA, led me to offer it for sale as a hand-made low quantity item. It was the first kit that I made commercially available. The kit is very simple comprising three castings, two wheelsets and coupling loops. Wire is included to make simple couplings, alternatively the castings accept the magnetically actuated Greenwich coupler loops (available separately). The suggested method of assembly involves low-melt solder and superglue and the kit comes with full detailed instructions. The resulting truck has a nice low centre of gravity and has been run successfully on Peco codes 55 & 82 , Shinohara code 55 and hand-made track & points down to code 40. | This is a scale model, within the unavoidable distortions of the scale and gauge, of a typical 'continental' style Vee tipper wagon, particularly of those made by W. G. Allen of Tipton. The model is equivalent in size to about 1 cubic yard in 00 scale and 1 cubic metre in HO; W.G. Allen manufactured vee tippers across and beyond this range of sizes. Trucks of a very similar design were also made by many different companies based on an original Decauville design and including such well known names as Orenstein & Koppel and Hudson. |
